Game Of Thrones IN SPACE?!?
What the WHAT?!?!
Actually, that's a pretty accurate description of "Leviathan Wakes". It's a space opera, and I love me some space opera. Written by James S.A. Corey and put out by Orbit Books, it's got realistic physics and amazing characters. The storyline is already very movie-ish, which is good considering SyFy just bought the rights to make it into a series.
Honestly, there's a lack of true space fiction on TV. There's tons of pseudo sci-fi for the mainstream (see - "Almost Human" on Fox), but it really doesn't scratch the itch. You might not have liked the ending of Battlestar Galactica, but that show was AH-MAH-ZING. Dramatic, the physics made sense (as long as you accepted the idea of an FTL drive), ridiculously deep, complex and intensely flawed characters.
"Leviathan Wakes" has that in droves. I have the second book in the series, but sadly I haven't gotten around to reading it yet. I'm hoping to conquer that soon. Honestly, it's a great read and I'm stoked beyond belief that it's being made into a TV series.
Go get a copy today. You won't regret it! Also, let me know what you thought about it! Maybe I'll start my own little WRRV Book Club.
