Accident Causes Massive Traffic Jam on Route 9 in Poughkeepsie
A nasty motor vehicle accident was the cause of a multi-hour-long traffic jam on Route 9 in Poughkeepsie, New York.
Many drivers on Route 9 in the Poughkeepsie area of Dutchess County were stuck in traffic for hours Wednesday afternoon after a two-vehicle accident led to a stretch of the road being closed for hours.
Nasty Accident on Route 9 in Poughkeepsie, NY
According to a press release from the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department, the two-vehicle crash happened on Wednesday, July 17th at approximately 3:41 p.m. in the area of South Road (State Route 9) and Rochambeau Lane in the Town of Poughkeepsie.
What Happened on Route 9 Wednesday?
According to police, a 2017 Chevrolet sedan attempted to make a left turn from the southbound side of South Road (Rt 9) into the northbound side of South Road when it collided with another vehicle that was traveling northbound.

The Chevrolet being driven by an unidentified Poughkeepsie man collided with a 2017 Hyundai hatchback operated by a Poughkeepsie woman who was traveling north. The woman who was driving the Hyundai has yet to be identified was taken to a local area hospital to receive treatment for what police called "serious physical injuries."
The accident caused South Road to be closed for 4 hours as area law enforcement and first responders cleared the scene and conducted an accident reconstruction. Route 9 was reopened at approximately 7:43 p.m.
