Iconic Restaurant With 36 New York Locations Closing 150 Restaurants
The largest chain of family-style restaurants in the United States has announced its plans to close 150 restaurants over the next year.
If this sounds like something you've heard before you aren't alone as another big name in food has announced its plans to not only overhaul its menu but also to close 150 restaurants by the end of 2025.
Back in April, we learned that the seafood restaurant Red Lobster was filing for bankruptcy and closing numerous locations. That was followed by TGI Fridays abruptly closing various locations across the country including restaurants in Middletown and Poughkeepsie, New York.
Not it appears we can also add the home of the "Grand Slam" to the list of restaurants closing select locations after its stock has dropped around 50% this year.
Denny's Closing 150 Restaurants
The 71-year-old diner chain Denny's has announced that they are planning to close 150 restaurants over the next year starting with closing 50 by the end of 2024. An additional 100 restaurants will close by the end of 2025 according to ABC 7. The closures were announced during a company earnings call on Tuesday which stated that they would be closing a tenth of its restaurants leaving the company with 1,375 locations once the closures are complete.
What Denny's Are Closing?
Denny's executive vice president and chief global development officer Steve Dunn said that the specific list of restaurants closing hasn't been finalized yet but did say that they will be targeting "underperforming restaurants" that are weighing down the company because they are either too old to be remodeled or in areas that have become unprofitable. Currently, there are 36 Denny's in New York including restaurants in Buffalo, Queensbury, Saratoga Springs, Middletown, and Newburgh, New York.
Changes at Denny's
Denny's is also considering a major change to its requirement for franchisees to stay open 24/7 and is expected to begin to offer a smaller menu with the number of options being cut in half from 97 down to 46 when the changes are complete.
