Dog Escapes in Orangeburg, New York Grocery Store

A dog running around a grocery store sounds like a plot in a children's movie. I'm pretty sure they used it in a Clifford The Big Red Dog book too. However, that was exactly what happened in Rockland County recently.

Unfortunately, it wasn't a fun situation for Dani the dog and her family. According to Buddha Dog Rescue and Recovery, Dani was visiting with her family from Pennsylvania this week when she made her great escape out of a partially opened car window.

Dani's family was inside the Orangeburg Stop & Shop location. The pup was smart enough to enter and look for her family, but she became frantic and scared when she couldn't find them and dashed out the back doors.

Dani found herself running scared onto Route 303, a dangerous and busy road.

Local Rescue Steps Into Action, Locates Missing Orangeburg, NY Dog

Buddha Dog Rescue and Recovery is well known for their understanding of dogs and their travel patterns. Hundreds families have used the rescue to locate their missing pets and that's just what Dani's family did.

When Dani first escaped, they went across the street from the Orangeburg Stop & Shop to Musbro Kennels and Doggie Daycare Facility. The staff immediately reached out to Buddha Dog Rescue.

On Facebook Buddha Dog Rescue explains that "Knowing that dogs usually return to the point of escape, the decision was made to set up in the parking lot of Stop & Shop." They go on to say that within hours, after Stop & Shop closed, Dani darted "across the parking lot and straight into" the Buddha Dog Rescue trap.

Dani is home and safe with her family.

Buddha Dog Rescue Finds Dog After 200 Days on The Run

Back in March 2024, a dog named Trixie was out on a walk with her owner at Plum Point Beach in New Windsor. Unfortunately, Trixie took off and her owner was worried sick.

At the time Buddha Dog Rescue was extremely busy with several other missing dog cases and couldn't assist in the rescue.

Several months later at the end of August a friend of Buddha Dog Rescue reached out concerned about a dog in the New Windsor area. Nicole of Buddha Dog Rescue recognized the name and found herself heading out to Orange County, New York to get Trixie home.

A trap was set and lo-and-behold, Trixie found her way to safety after over 200 days on the run.
