Holiday Movies Are Super Popular in 2024

Is there anything better than a made for TV (or streaming service) Christmas movie? Sure, they're a little cheesy and corny, but they're great to have on deck for a cold winter night before the holidays.

This year, Netflix teamed up with Hallmark to stream some of the more popular Hallmark Christmas movies from last holiday season. Needless to say, they're a hit on the streaming service.

But Netflix has been dropping some original holiday spirit over the last few years too. This year, they came in hot with movies like The Merry Men starring Chad Michael Murray as a stripping Santa, kind of.

You just have to watch it and judge for yourself, okay?

Another Netflix original drops a Hudson Valley mention and is a pivotal moment in the plot.

"Meet Me Next Christmas" stars actress/singer Christina Milian as Layla a successful business woman who meets a charming man named James while on delay at an airport.

The 2 make a deal to meet next Christmas in NYC at a specific concert. The concert being for the acapella band Pentatonix.

Naturally, in typical Christmas movie fashion, they fast forward to the next year after Layla and James' meet cute. When they fast forward they bring us to Layla's home town of... Poughkeepsie, New York.

This is where the story takes a interesting and predictable turn, but we're a spoiler free website. So you'll have to see what happens for yourself.

With that being said, the Poughkeepsie that the movie depicts looks nothing like our Poughkeepsie and I can't tell if they used an actually shot of Poughkeepsie or not. You be the judge:

This scene doesn't look familiar to me, but the next one could definitely pass as PKNY. Although, I don't think there's a "Now Leaving Poughkeepsie" sign quite like the one they created:

Was an Ulster County Town Featured in a Hallmark Movie?

As we mentioned earlier, Netflix added a handful of Hallmark movies from 2023 to their lineup this year.

One of the movies added was Christmas with a Kiss. Much like Meet Me Next Christmas, our main character Mona is a successful business woman, but she has to help her family at their holiday festival in "Upstate, New York."

We later learn the town in called...Milton!

We're still a bit confused if the town is Milton in Ulster County or Milton in Saratoga County, but we'll take what we can get.
