Last Thursday if you were traveling through Ulster County near St. Remy and the Town of Esopus around 9 AM you may have run into some traffic. Roads were temporarily shut down due to a two car crash.

The Ulster County Sheriff's Office share information yesterday through social media about a two car accident that involved a First Student Van. The accident happened on Thursday, November 14th around 8:55 AM and caused Route 213 to be closed in the Hamlet of St. Remy from Carney Road and William White Road for around 30 minutes.

The accident was determined to be a head on incident so there were injuries. The St. Remy Volunteer Fire Department and the Town of Esopus Volunteer Ambulance Squad were called to assist.

The ensuing investigation determined that a 2020 First Student Inc. Ford passenger van was traveling south on Route 213 when a 2023 Chevrolet Bolt traveling north, crossed over the hazard markings, entered the southbound lane and struck the van head on. The operator and sole occupant of the Chevy Bolt was identified as a 57 year-old man of New Paltz and the operator of the van was identified as a 25 year-old man of Wallkill. The time change in early November obviously had us adjusting our driving habits with it suddenly being dark on our ride home. AAA also reminds us that deer are definitely out and about. Keep an eye for them on any road these days not just the one that travel through the woods. Leaves on the roads will be another issues as we finally get some rain. They can be as slippery as ice. And speaking of ice the temperatures are dropping so anything wet can freeze overnight.
