Undoubtedly, if you or someone in your circle is a firefighter in the Hudson Valley, you all have been having a busy few weeks. Major brush and forest fires that burned in multiple locations kept local agencies extremely busy.

Fortunately, the Hudson Valley has a large group of people in every community who are willing to step up to work and even volunteer to be first responders. The people who come running when we need them. In the last few weeks, that fact has been more evident with all of the brush and forest fires that burned throughout our region.

We want to express our gratitude to the many agencies, firefighters, and personnel who worked together to contain the Whitehouse Fire in Denning–a brush fire spanning hundreds of acres and involving challenging terrain and weather conditions ideal for the fire's spread. We also want to recognize the excellent work of our Ulster County Department of Emergency Services, which took the lead in overall incident management, and the Grahamsville Fire Department, which was the primary local response agency and served as the initial incident command (via Ulster County Government Facebook)
