Yankee Fans Pay The Price For World Series Stunt
As a Yankee fan, it's tough to look back at their 2024 World Series run. But lets rewind a bit...
The New York Yankees Positive 2024 Season
For the last few years, New York Yankee fans have been defending their favorite baseball team. It was a tough go at it for a while there.
The Yankees hadn't made a World Series appearance since 2009 when they beat the Philadelphia Phillies. The 2024 season felt different, there was an air of confidence with the team lead by Aaron Judge, Juan Soto and Giancarlo Stanton.
The Yankees were 94-68 and headed to the World Series where they unfortunately lost the series to the LA Dodgers 4-1.
But the biggest story out of the 2024 World Series had nothing to do with any of the Yankees or Dodgers roster or plays made on the field.
Yankee Fans Get Banned Forever After World Series Stunt
On October 29th, Game 4 of the 2024 World Series was played at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, it was also the only game of the series that the Yankees won.
During the game 2 Yankees fans, Austin Capobianco and John P. Hansen, aggressively tried to rip the ball from LA Dodger Mookie Betts as he attempted to catch a ball on the right field line.
Capobianco and Hansen were escorted out of the game and then banned from Game 5.
The MLB however, has laid down the law. In a statement obtained by the Associated Press, the MLB wrote to Hansen and Capobianco "Based on your conduct, Major League Baseball is banning you indefinitely from all MLB stadiums, offices, and other facilities."
The letter went on to say "You are also hereby banned indefinitely from attending any events sponsored by or associated with MLB." If they are found on any MLB property or at events they will be removed and "subject to arrests for trespass."
Is it too harsh of a punishment or just right?
Dropped Yankees Ball Goes on To Sell For Big Bucks at Auction
The other big story out of the 2024 World Series was the Aaron Judge dropped ball in Game 5.
After an at bat filled that looked like a homerun derby, the Yankees quite figuratively dropped the ball. In the 5th inning, Aaron Judge dropped a routine popup that most definitely cost them the series.
In December 2024, the dropped ball went for a whopping $43,510 at auction and the seller was...the MLB.
