A Kingston man abandoned his pit bull on New Year's Eve in freezing temperatures and without food or water, the Ulster County Sheriff's Office (UCSO) said in a press release.

Ryan McIntosh, 30, was arrested Sunday and charged with abandonment of an animal and animal cruelty.

McIntosh's dog, Tyson, was spotted in the Alligerville section of the Town of Rochester beginning on New Year's Day. However, it wasn't until Tuesday, Jan. 5 that Tyson was rescued on Rock Hill Road by the Town of Rochester Animal Control. Tyson's picture was shared on the Lost Pets of the Hudson Valley Facebook page, where he was identified as McIntosh's dog, the UCSO said.

Further investigation revealed McIntosh had abandoned Tyson in the area on New Year's Eve, according to the UCSO.

Tyson required care by a local veterinarian and is expected to fully recover.

McIntosh will appear in Rochester Town Court on Wednesday, Jan. 27.
