Poughkeepsie, New York Walk Makes Strides to Help Families in Need

Is it possible to chill out this summer AND help your neighbors? Absolutely! Mid-Hudson Love INC is hosting its 2nd Annual Good Neighbor Walk to raise funds for local neighbors in need on Saturday, July 20, at 9:30 am. This event offers food, fun activities for the whole family, some exercise, and most importantly, an opportunity to help others. Registration for individuals and teams of walkers is open now at www.mid-hudsonloveinc.org. Check-in on July 20 runs from 8:45 to 9:20 am in the parking lot at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 55 Wilbur Boulevard in Poughkeepsie.

The Good Neighbor Walk is a fundraiser to benefit the work of local churches through Mid-Hudson Love In the Name of Christ. Mid-Hudson Love INC is a partnership of churches that helps local families experiencing poverty by providing personal attention, skill-building classes, and tangible goods such as personal care items, linens, and furniture. Love INC has a volunteer force of about 190 people answering calls for help and connecting neighbors in need with support, encouragement, and community.

Be a ‘Good Neighbor’ and join the fun as folks stroll the beautiful walking path beside Spratt Park and McCann Golf Course! Every walker gets a goodie bag, and everyone who raises at least $50 for Love INC gets a T-shirt. The top individual fundraiser wins the Golden Flip Flop award and the top fundraising Team wins the Golden Sneaker trophy to proudly display for a year. A few months ago, I spoke with Fund Development & Volunteer Coordinator for Mid-Hudson Love INC, Jewel Ratzlaff. We loaded up on sweets ahead of the Super Bowl and Valentine’s Day because Love INC hosted their 16th Annual Cookie Walk on February 10th with over 800 dozen home-baked gourmet cookies. I was able to attend this event, and fill up a few boxes worth of cookies which I gave as gifts to my family, my girlfriend's family, and I kept a box for myself! Not just that, but we dove into the expansive work that Love INC does to help individuals in need in the Hudson Valley through their volunteer programs, classes, and more.
