Quick acting police are being called heroes after they saved the life of an overdosing man on Interstate 84.

On Wednesday, deputy sheriffs assigned to an Orange County Stop DWI Patrol, received an emergency call for a unresponsive man on Interstate 84 in the Town of Wawayanda.

Arriving officers found the caller kneeling and performing CPR on a 22-year-old man.

The deputies immediately took over, recognized the signs of an opiate overdose and administered three doses of Narcan, police say.

Narcan is a drug proven to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. Police also continued CPR and other lifesaving efforts.

The 22-year-old man from Branchville, N.J., was revived and transported to the Orange Regional Medical Center.
