Should Kingston Property Be Developed or Left as Parkland?
A massive 500+ acre riverfront site in Kingston could be preserved as parkland if Scenic Hudson's plans to purchase the property go through. Hudson Valley One reports the former Tilcon property sits right on the Hudson River and could be turned into a huge public asset.
The land was formerly slated for development as early as 2002. More than 1,600 apartments would have been built to go along with commercial space but that project never saw the light of day. The property itself would need some environmental remediation before it could be used but it consists of 260 acres of woods to go along with a mile of riverfront.
A company called AVR still has rights to the land, and a vice president expressed optimism when asked about the project. Hudson Valley One reports Scenic Hudson has secured the rights to purchase the property from them.
Additional partnerships will need to be formed to get the project underway as funding is needed but it sounds like there's a reason to be hopeful.
