It took the X-Men films over a decade to finally introduce the iconic Sentinel robots, but will TV manage to do it far sooner? That’s the word on FOX’s as-yet-untitled X-Men TV series, which producers claim will feature the mutant-hunting baddies, “though very different from what we’ve seen before.”

The X-Men are slowly taking over. On TV, we’re getting FX’s Legion, on the big screen, we’re getting Logan, a Deadpool sequel, and New Mutants. Even after the decidedly dismal X-Men: Apocalypse, the film series that makes up the spine of the X-Men franchise is still planning on a further installment, and now we might know the title.

The upcoming Wolverine sequel has long been hyped as Hugh Jackman’s final outing as the iconic hero, but he may not be the only one preparing to say farewell to the X-Men franchise. In a new interview, Patrick Stewart reveals that Wolverine 3 (or 2, if you’re ignoring X-Men Origins) may very well feature his last appearance as Professor Charles Xavier.

As FX began moving forward with Noah Hawley’s X-Men universe TV series Legion, many wondered what happened to FOX’s own project based on the Hellfire Club. That series has apparently cooled, while Burn Notice vet Matt Nix and Bryan Singer develop a new X-Men series for FOX with close ties to an underground mutant group.

X-Men: First Class took place in the ’60s. X-Men: Days of Future Past moved to the ’70s. Apocalypse is set in the ’80s. Like one of those “what comes next” questions on an IQ test, you can probably guess where this is going, but just in case you had any doubt, producer Simon Kinberg says — get ready — that the next X-Men sequel will take place in the ’90s.
