A 16-year-old inmate of the Ulster County Jail has been arrested after allegedly attacking a corrections officer. 

Detectives were assigned to investigate the assault of an Ulster County Corrections Officer inside the Ulster County Jail. Through investigation it was determined that the inmate refused to follow the orders of the Officer when he was told to enter his cell, police say. The inmate allegedly attacked the Officer by punching him in the face and wrestling him to the ground.

The inmate was restrained and received no injuries. The Corrections Officer sustained minor injuries and was transported to a nearby health care facility for treatment and released.

The inmate was arrested and charged with the class D Felony of Assault in the Second Degree. The inmate is currently incarcerated at the Ulster County Jail with a $20,000 cash bail for an unrelated charge. the inmate will be arraigned in the City of Kingston Court at a later date.

The defendant’s name is being withheld due to eligibility for youthful offender status.
