An adult with 4 children had to be rescued after they called 911 to report they were lost late at night while hiking in the Hudson Valley.

Sunday around 8:45 p.m., Ulster County 911 contacted the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation reporting five lost hikers at Sundown Wild Forest on the Peekamoose Blue Trail in the Town of Denning.

Officials say, A 39-year-old female and four children, all from Astoria, began walking at the Bangle Hill Trail across from the Peekamoose "upper field" camping area and became disoriented when darkness set in.

Once she realized the group was lost, the adult female contacted Ulster 911. DEC Forest Rangers responded to the area and discovered that four NYC Department of Environmental Protection Units and two New York State Trooper Units were already on scene and started hiking into the last known location they had for the group.

At approximately 10:40 p.m. the rescue team made contact with group and escorted them to the trailhead. By 11:45 p.m. all members of the group were reported safe.
