Police believe alcohol was involved in a fatal car crash in Dutchess County.

Sunday around 5:30 a.m., the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a one-car crash on Sharon Road near Maple Avenue in the Town of Northeast.

Upon arrival police found 26-year-old Aubrey N. Schmitt, of Canaan, Connecticut lying near the vehicle with serious injuries.

Schmitt was given emergency care, however she was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2005 Nissan Altima driven by Schmitt was traveling west on Sharon Road when the operator lost control. The vehicle left the roadway, struck an embankment, and rolled over. Schmidt was ejected from the car.

Police say alcohol involvement is suspected, and the investigation into the crash is continuing by the Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit.

Schmitt was the only occupant of her vehicle and was not wearing a seat-belt, according to officials.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Millerton Fire Department and the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office. More information may be released as it becomes available.
