[VIDEO] Can You Identify These Tiny New York Animal Babies?

Apologies if you needed to be productive today, but you're going to want to stop whatever it is you're doing to see one of the cutest videos in existence.

Springtime in New York means a baby boom for local wildlife. From snapping turtles and skunks searching for their mates to the pile of predators that just opened their eyes underneath the Mid-Hudson Bridge, there's something adorable around every corner. Never have I ever, however, seen such tiny examples of this New York species.

Rescued Baby Animals in New York State

Before we get to the video that even the Grinch would love, I feel the need to reiterate that I'm not some newbie New York City transplant that falls head over heels for anything tiny. With hands-on experience rescuing squirrels (above), I thought I had already seen the cutest baby in the world. I was wrong.

Baby Opossums Rescued

"We are oozing at the seams with babies!", began a recent post from Second Chances Wildlife Center. The babies in question, eight tiny opossums, had recently been rescued far before they could ever manage to survive on their own.

Why Opossums Are Important to New York State

Opossums are one of the most special animals in the New York state ecosystem. These marsupials (the only marsupials in the country) are one of our natural defenses against ticks, and can eat over 5,000 larval ticks every week (or do they?). The rescued opossum babies, called joeys, will need weeks of care before they can be safely reintroduced to the wild.
