Men had an average of 7 partners in their lifetime whereas women had 6.4. The average in the United States was 7.2 sexual partners

For New Yorkers, the average number of sexual partners was below the average. New Yorkers had a little 2.6 sexual partners each, about 5 less than the national average. Louisiana was the state with the highest average of sexual partners, with 15.7. Utah had the lowest average number of sexual partners at 2.6. New York was close to being named one of the states with the lowest number of sexual partners.

It was also found in the study published by Online Doctor that people on average in the United States thought 7 sexual partners was the ideal number.
