A heavily traveled local route has been named part of one of America's best road trips. Route 9 is more than 300 miles long and goes from the Canadian border all the way to Delaware. The 57 mile stretch through the lower New York and the Hudson Valley has been named by MSN as one of the best in the country.

The Hudson Valley is in good company as the Florida Keys, Maui and the Pacific Coast Highway in California are all in the running. Another local road, the Merritt Parkway in Connecticut was mentioned as well.

Many of us think of route 9 as a commercial hub, that's not the case for much of the route. There are many sections with river views, historic mansions and even farmer's markets. Through New Jersey it runs parallel to the Garden State Parkway while in New York it runs parallel to the New York State Thruway.

You never know who could be driving around the area. Have a look at the Hudson Valley's most well known high school graduates.
