A Newburgh man is accused of violating an order of protection, assaulting a victim and endangering the welfare of child.

In late September, New York State Police responded to a home in the Town of Thompson for a report of an assault in progress.

Upon their arrival, officials were told that 39-year-old Melbourne Ridge of Newburgh assaulted a resident at a Sullivan County home. A police investigation determined that an order of protection was issued in Orange County that prohibited Ridge from having contact with the victim.

State Police arrested Ridge on Sunday. The unnamed victim was treated for minor injuries at Catskill Regional Medical Center.

Ridge was charged with aggravated criminal contempt, a felony, third-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child, both misdemeanors.

Ridge was arraigned in the Town of Thompson Court and released on his own recognizance. He’s due to appear in court at a later date.
