An off-duty Kingston Detective is credited with spotting and stopping a burglary.

Kingston Police charged 42-year-old Tonya J. Carney and 39-year-old Joseph J. Drake, both of Kingston with burglary, criminal mischief, felonies, possession of burglar tools, and criminal possession of stolen property, misdemeanors.

According to Kingston Police, on his way home from work an unnamed Kingston Police officer noticed a suspicious car parked near a vacant house. The house has been empty for a while and was previously boarded up by the Kingston Building Department.

The officer contacted police and told them about the suspicious vehicle. Shortly after he noticed lights and noises coming from the house.

Police responded to the house, entered the building, and allegedly found Drake and Carney in the building with cooper that took from the residence.

Both were remanded to Ulster County Jail. Carney on $2,500 bail and Drake on $25,000 bail.
