A Kingston woman is in trouble with the law for allegedly forging an cashing almost $8,000 worth of checks.

In May New York State Police in Kingston began an investigation into forged checks being written and deposited into a bank account at a bank in the City of Kingston.

Police say the investigation revealed that on three separate occasions, during the month of February, 32-year-old Heather M. Vanettan, of Kingston deposited forged checks into her personal bank account totaling $7,551.00.

Vanetten knew the victim personally and had access to their home, officials say.

Vanetten was charged with 3rd-degree grand larceny, and three counts of 2nd-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, all felonies.

Vanetten was arraigned in the City of Kingston Court and released to Ulster County Pre-Trial supervision.
