Do you have an old window unit air conditioner that is either broken and you want to get rid of it? Or is it so inefficient energy wise that you feel like it is costing you more to run than it is to get your place cool in the warm weather?

If you are a Central Hudson customer, there might be an advantage to getting a new Energy Star Window Air Conditioner. Central Hudson will give you a rebate. Yes, money for you.

You will need to bring your old window or through the wall air conditioner to the Sears Store located at the Newburgh Mall, the Hudson Valley Mall in Kingston or the Poughkeepsie Galleria. At the Sears store, they will accept your old unit and provide you with a receipt that shows you turned it in for recycling.

Here are guidelines from the Central Hudson website as to what you need to do get the rebate:

  • You must be a Central Hudson residential electric customer.
  • You must surrender an old, working air conditioner to have it properly recycled.
  • You must have a valid photo I.D. when surrendering your old, working air conditioner.
  • You must have a receipt for your new ENERGY STAR® air conditioner, Proof of Recycling certificate for your old, working air conditioner and a rebate offer form (all provided by the participating retailer) completed and submitted via mail to receive rebate.
  • Drop off your air conditioner at a participating retailer between May 28 and Sept. 15, 2016.
  • Limit 4 rebates per account.
  • $50 rebate for window air conditioners; $100 for through-the-wall units. If you have questions, please call (866) 706-3995 and press option 2.
