Roller Derby Lives In The Hudson Valley

The Hudson Valley Horrors held their first home bout of 2018 on April 15th. They practice and play their home games in Hyde Park, NY at Hyde Park Roller Magic.

After speaking with many team members on The Horrors I learned that a lot of them never roller skated before they joined roller derby. They practice at least once a week during their season. There is a minimum skills test that each member must pass before becoming an active member of the roster and participate in bouts.

There are multiple roller derby leagues and The Horrors are part of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association, WFTDA. In WFTDA, players must wear regulation 4 wheeled skates, not roller blades or in-line skates. For more information on their rules and organization you can visit wftda.com.
