Throughout the years, the Stormtrooper design has had subtle changes from movie to movie — even in the original trilogy you can see how the helmets and armor were updated with every installment in the series. For The Force Awakens, which takes place decades after the events of Return of the Jedi, we saw some more changes in the design, plus a few markedly different upgrades. Now, there’s a rumor going around that we could see a very special Stormtrooper design in the upcoming Episode VIII: the Executioner.

Makingstarwars.net reports that an inside source claims there’s a Stormtrooper being referred to by that name on set. He looks pretty similar to the First Order Stormtroopers that were introduced in The Force Awakens, but with some striking differences. In Episode VII, we met FN-2199, the one who shouted “Traitor!” at Finn before whipping out that electric bludgeon-sword thing. The Executioner looks to be the new Stormtrooper design showcased in Episode VIII. According to the source, he looks similar to regular Stormtroopers, but with a matte black section covering one half of his helmet. Makingstarwars.net has a kind of “police sketch” of what the Executioner could look like, if the rumors are true, so head over there and take a look. The source also said that the Executioner’s new weapon is similar to FN-2199’s, but with spinning blades at the end, like the spheres in Phantasm.

The regular Stormtrooper design is also being updated with a mouthpiece similar to those in the original trilogy. Another rumor going around is that Finn could go head-to-head with who- or whatever this new Stormtrooper turns out to be, only this time he won’t have Han Solo there to save him. The Executioner, or whoever he (or she) is, is going to cause some trouble.

Star Wars: Episode VIII hits theaters December 15, 2017.
