Tiny Sweaters Save Tiny Penguins

You know how I love penguins, especially penguins that wear clothes but this time the story has much more meaning that penguins dressed as Santa. Meet Alfie Date, at 109 years-old Alfie is Australia's oldest living man but it isn't his age that has everyone talking. Alfie is helping tens of thousands of cute little flightless birds stay alive.

The little guys live on Phillip Island and sadly the sharply dressed birdies weren't dressed for an oil spill back in 2001. According to the Penguin Foundation of Phillips Island the creatures have been unintentionally digesting poisonous chemicals as they attempted to clean the oil off their feathers ever since. So the foundation asked for the publics help, thats when Alfie Date stepped in with his more than eighty-years of knitting experience. The sweaters not only help the little birds avoid contact with the oily feathers but also keeps them warm, snug and more importantly alive! Thanks to Alfie and all the volunteers for keeping these stunningly beautiful birds alive! And as always, sharply dressed!
