A murder investigation involving multiple jurisdictions led to the arrest of a Florida man accused of strangling his teenage cousin.

Local authorities took Christian A. Grissom, 29, into custody Sunday after Russell County Sheriff's Office in Alabama contacted the Ulster County Sheriff's Office (UCSO) and the Town of Plattekill Police Department with information that Grissom had fled to Plattekill, the UCSO said on its Facebook page.

Christian A. Grissom, 29, allegedly strangled Keonte Chavis, 19, of Phenix City, Alabama, and left her body on the side of the road, where she was discovered Saturday, according to a report by WRBL.com. The teen had first been reported missing on Aug. 7.

Grissom has been remanded to Ulster County Jail pending an extradition hearing.
