Year in Review: Fatal Car Accidents on Hudson Valley Roads
This was the first year of Hudson Valley Post and we'd like to thank all of you for continuing to "follow the conversation" here at Hudson Valley Post.
It's been an interesting year in the local area, full of tragic murders, presidential hopefuls, fires, crashes and tales to warm the heart. Here are the stories we felt had the most impact on the Hudson Valley in 2016.
Fatal Accidents
Sadly, the Hudson Valley saw a number of fatal accidents on local roads and highways.
One of the biggest occurred in July on I-84 west near Exit 5 in Montgomery. Multiple vehicles collided on the highway were two lanes merge to one due to roadwork at a construction zone.
The multi-vehicle accident led to one death, multiple entrapments, and many serious injuries.
Two days earlier, a large crash involving multiple cars and a tractor-trailer happened in almost the exact same spot.
- Two were killed when a delivery truck and a tractor trailer collided in Montgomery
- 34-year-old Liberty man was killed on of Route 55 in Neversink.
- One person died in an early morning crash on I-84 in East Fishkill
- 25-year-old from Monroe was killed on 84 in Middletown
- A man on his motorcycle was killed after he was seen weaving in traffic on the Tappan Zee Bridge
- A 49-year-old died after hitting a tree on Route 9 in Red Hook
- It's believed alochol played a role in a 26-year-old's fatal accident in Dutchess County
- Police say an 84-year-old was in the far left-lane when she tried to cross multiple lanes and exit I-84 in Fishkill
- Three people and two animals were killed when a car ran out of gas on I-84 in Middletown and a tractor-trailer slammed into the car
- One man was killed in a four-car crash in the Town of Esopus
- An 80-year-old died after he missed a stop sign in Saugerties
