Twelve employees at a Donald Trump-owned golf course in the Hudson Valley were allegedly fired for being immigrants who were in the country illegally.

On Jan 18., around 12 employees at the Trump National Golf Club Westchester in Briarcliff Manor were summoned for private meetings with HR and fired because they were all undocumented immigrants, according to interviews the Washington Post conducted with the workers and their attorney. All of the fired workers are from Latin America.

NBC News confirmed 12 workers who lived in the country illegally were fired.

The firings came during the 35-day partial government shutdown. The firings prove Trump hired and used undocumented immigrants as he demanded a border wall on the border with Mexico to keep immigrants out of the United States, the Washington Post reports.

According to the Washington Post, most worked at the golf course for many years. Some won employee-of-the-month awards and received glowing letters of recommendation. Some fired workers were trusted to hold the keys to Eric Trump's weekend home or experienced enough to know Donald Trump wanted two orders of chicken wings when he ordered chicken wings.
