How the Program Works

Summer EBT is a federally funded initiative aimed at reducing food insecurity among children from low-income families. Families of eligible children receive the $120-per-child benefit on an EBT card, which can be used like Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. These funds can be spent on nutritious food like fruits, vegetables, meat, and dairy at authorized retailers, including farmers markets.

Who is Eligible?

Most children eligible for SNAP, Temporary Assistance, or Medicaid automatically receive the Summer EBT benefits. Other families may apply if their child attends a school participating in the National School Lunch Program and meets the income requirements for free or reduced-price meals. Families can apply online at ny.gov/SummerEBT before the September 3 deadline.
