Two arrested after a car was pulled over on I-87 in the Hudson Valley. Police say the driver has 12 license suspensions and over $10,000 worth of heroin was hidden.

On Monday around 9:30 p.m., State Police from Woodbury stopped a vehicle on the New York State Thruway for a traffic violation. During the investigation police allege the driver gave a false name. Once 26-year-old Alexander P. Gayheart, of Ballston Spa was positively identified police determined he had 12 suspension on his license.

With the assistance of Newburgh’s State Police K-9 unit, Gayheart and his passenger, Lazaro S. Salgado, 59, of Troy were found to be in possession of over 5 ounces of heroin. Authorities say the drugs were found in multiple locations in the car and on both suspects.

Both were charged with 4th-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, 3rd-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance intent to sell, felonies, and 7th-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor. Gayheart was additional charged with the misdemeanor for 2nd-degree criminal impersonation.

Both were arraigned in Town of Woodbury Court and remanded to Orange County Jail. Bail was set for Gayheart at $50,000 cash or $25,000 bond. Salgado was sent to prison without bail.
