Four children are accused of spraypainting swastikas onto a number of Hudson Valley homes and cars.

Last weekend, an unknown person or group of people sprayed painted “swastikas”, stars, “666”, and “smh” at numerous locations and several parked vehicles throughout the City of Kingston, officials say.

In a Facebook post, the Kingston Police Department wrote they are "aggressively investigating ugly acts of criminal mischief that have no place in our society."

The swastika graffiti happened while a number of celebrities and Hudson Valley residents held a concert and political rally at the Ulster Performing Arts Center on Broadway in Kingston, according to Kingston Mayor Steve Noble.

Natalie Merchant headlined "Hudson Valley Votes." She was joined by actors Paul Rudd and Lili Taylor; Aaron Dessner of The National; singer-songwriter Dar Williams; actress and filmmaker Mary Stuart Masterson and activist and author Eve Ensler.

On Monday, Kingston police announced they identified the people responsible.

According to police, four 12-year-olds spread the hate graffiti for shock value rather than hate.

"They were not spreading an ideology or belief, nor were they targeting any one individual, group, or entity in particular," Kingston police wrote on Facebook. "Although this crime struck many emotions in our community, it was not motivated by bias of race, sex, religion or prejudice."

Police say their investigation is ongoing and arrests are pending.
