No one was exactly over the moon for another Kevin James family sitcom, and some recent showrunner shifts for CBS’ Kevin Can Wait can certainly attest to that, but the series will at least get one notable boost. Reports reveal Adam Sandler will take a break from his Netflix deal to guest on his friend’s show, just as he’d done for King of Queens.

Per Variety, Sandler will appear in the November 7 episode alongside his I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry and Pixels co-star, playing Kevin (James)’s former partner. So reads the official description from Variety, as well as a promo for the 8:00 P.M. episode:

In the “Kevin Can Wait” episode, Kevin (James) gets jealous when he hears how happy his former patrol partner is with his fit, new rookie Nick, and sets out to show his old friend what he’s missing. Sandler will play his former partner. The role of Nick will be played by former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman, who is also guest starring.

The show itself underwent a bit of upheaval with the departure of showrunner and co-creator Bruce Helford, leaving Rob Long to take over. Kevin Can Wait already has a full-season order from CBS for Season 1, maxing out at 22 episodes.

Certainly Kevin Can Wait exists in a different market from King of Queens, but will Sandler’s appearance do anything for its image?
