Police are still looking for answers after gunshots rang out in the middle of the night in Highland, NY during an alleged armed robbery.
The terrifying scene unfolded at roughly 3:16am at the Sunoco gas station at 3600 Route 9W in Highland, NY. With rumors flying about what happened inside the convenience store, police have released limited details regarding the crime and the suspect.

The Sunoco station, as well as the attached Dunkin' location, are popular stops for local commuters. Unfortunately, this wasn't the first time a business on Highland's stretch of Route 9W experienced a violent crime.
Robbery and Assault at Highland Burger King in 2024
A year ago to the date, Highland's Burger King location (below) experienced what police described as a robbery and assault, with a suspect allegedly attacking a cashier and stealing money from the register before fleeing. The recent incident at the Sunoco station carried an extra layer of danger.

"On Tuesday, July 22 at approximately 3:16am, an unknown male entered Sunoco displaying a handgun and demanding money", began a recent post from the Town of Lloyd police (below). They also helped clear up some early rumors.
Details from Robbery Contradict Original Reports
As police shared, the gunshots fired during the alleged robbery were aimed at the floor, and the two victims inside the Sunoco were unharmed. This information corrects earlier anecdotal reports that a clerk suffered a gunshot wound during the incident.

Police have not shared any additional information on the suspect, only describing them as "an unknown male". Potential witnesses are asked to call the Town of Lloyd police at 845-691-6102.
