I don't know about you, but I really didn't need another reason to be obsessed with Target, now they've just earned another star in my book after announcing the expansion of their child care and paid family leave benefits program.

Both my husband and I work full time (and then some), and with a little one in daycare/pre-school something always comes up...the dreaded daycare plague, an unexpected snow day, early dismissal, and the list goes on.  I guess I am officially doing this #adulting thing right when I read ALL the fine print about family leave benefits, and that becomes a priority when looking for a new job.

I was really excited to learn that one of my favorite places on earth, Target, is expanding benefits for their full-time AND part-time employees (more than 350,000 of them).  Changes will go into effect this fall, and a recent story from ABC7BNY highlights the following:

  • The company will give workers 20 days of backup child care or elder care through a partner network.
  • Employees will be able to bring their child to in-network day care for $20 per day, or pay a subsidized hourly rate for in-home care.
  • Target will also offer up to four weeks paid time off to care for a child or sick family member, and new moms will get an additional six to eight weeks of paid maternity leave.

This is big, and we applaud you, Target!  I hope that more businesses or companies will offer more opportunities for affordable and flexible family benefits.

Does your job offer an amazing family benefit package?  Let us know about it!
