A Groundbreaking Partnership

The Aspire NY initiative has been launched as a collaborative effort between the State’s Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence (OPDV), former NFL quarterback Don McPherson, and the Alliance of New York State YMCAs. This partnership will engage 140 YMCA facilities statewide to deliver programming aimed at preventing gender-based violence. This initiative reflects New York's commitment to improving public safety and supporting survivors of domestic violence, especially during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Innovative Approach to Masculinity

At the heart of the Aspire NY program is McPherson's philosophy of Aspirational Masculinity. Born in Brooklyn and a former quarterback for Syracuse University, McPherson encourages men and boys to engage in meaningful conversations about gender dynamics and to embrace their authentic selves. Rather than focusing solely on the negatives of toxic masculinity, Aspire NY provides young men with the tools to foster healthy relationships and contribute positively to their communities.
