3 of the Best Vegan Restaurants in the Country Are in New York
Internet reviews can be like the Wild West; out of control and full of fighting. There's one thing that everyone seems to agree on, however, and it's the fact that New York State is an excellent destination for vegan dining.
While states like California might be more associated with plant-based lifestyles, vegan restaurants have spread across the country. According to Yelp reviewers, three of the best are here in the Empire State.
The Best Vegan Restaurants in New York State
While the 3 restaurants on the list are all located outside the Hudson Valley, it should be noted that there are some fantastic options here as well (we'll get to them in a moment).
Orchard Grocer, 78 Orchard Street in New York City
Orchard Grocer in New York City has been named the 65th-best vegan restaurant in the country and the third-best in New York State. Inspired by "the delicatessens of New York’s past", they offer both fresh-made sandwiches as well as vegan grocery items.
Tamam Falafel, 1108 Lexington Ave in New York City
Not only is Tamam vegan, but the falafel restaurant is kosher as well. Their menu includes cauliflower shawarma, eggplant sabich, and falafel. Yelp reviewers placed Tamam 58th in the country and second in New York State for vegan restaurants.
RAS Plant Based, 739 Franklin Ave in Brooklyn, NY
RAS Plant Based, which was voted the 11th-best vegan restaurant in the country (and best in New York), serves vegan Ethiopian food as well as classics like vegan smash burgers and chick'n sanwiches. Diners unwilling to travel to Brooklyn are encouraged to check out their second location in the West Village.
Vegan Restaurants in the Hudson Valley
There are several worthwhile vegan restaurants to visit in the Hudson Valley, although unfortunately many have closed in recent years. While destinations like Warwick's Conscious Fork and Goshen's Thank Goodness It's Vegan have disappeared, staples like the Garden Café in Woodstock (above) are still going strong.
