Thanks to one brave bovine, there's a new excuse for why you were late to work.

Commuters headed to New York City had to wait a while longer after a rogue bull somehow made their way onto the train tracks at Newark Penn Station. So what happened, and what will happen to the bull now that it's in custody?

Loose Bull Takes a Different Approach to a New York Commute

"NJ TRANSIT rail service is subject to up to 45 minute delays between Newark Penn and PSNY, due to Police activity near Newark Penn Station", began a Facebook post from NJ Transit. The police activity, of course, was a bull named Ricardo that decided to take a scenic stroll where he didn't belong.

Maybe it's the holiday season, or the fact that New Yorkers love to root for the underdog, but commuters were surprisingly supportive of the animal that snarled train traffic and caused countless travelers to start their workdays late.


Happy Ending for Bull Loose on NJ Transit Tracks

"He was determined to get some help so he could live a better life, good for him", shared one commenter. "Be free! Be Free!", said another. Once the bull was wrangled, NJ Transit shared the happy news: Ricardo was going to a new home. "Great news!", they exclaimed, "our showstopper bull, Ricardo is safe at his new home, Skylands Animal Sanctuary!

Skylands Animal Sanctuary describes themselves as a "home to over 400 farmed animals who escaped certain doom". While not every animal has a backstory as dramatic as Ricardo's, both New Jersey and New York residents were overjoyed to learn about the happy ending. "If only we could all be like Ricardo!", observed a New Jersey woman, "He wasn’t about to accept his fate".
