Blast From the Past Bungalow Life Still in Dutchess County
You don't have to be in Sullivan County to experience iconic bungalow living.
There's something really cute and iconic thinking about how people used to spend their summers in New York and how bungalow colonies were popular. It's kind of like adult summer camp... you and your family would go on the weekends and only in summer, there would be outdoor activities, you'd make life-life long friends (sometimes even find a romantic relationship) and you were left with amazing memories.
A lot of the bungalow colonies were located in the Sullivan County and Catskill area so it could be a bit of a trip to head that way. The popularity of bungalow colonies really changed when travel became cheaper and there were more options available...it was hard for a summer at the bungalow to compete with weeks on beautiful beaches and exploring European destinations.
There are still people who appreciate the bungalow life and want to continue that tradition with their family. There's a bungalow colony right in Dutchess County where you can get that feeling and you don't need to drive over a long way to get there.
What bungalow colony is a closer option for people in Dutchess County?
There are a few, but the one I'm mentioning is Somerset Leisure Homes (A Private Bungalow Community) on Sylvan Lake in Hopewell Junction. Somerset is located right on the lake and you'll feel like your in the movie 'Dirty Dancing' when you are there. Somerset Leisure Homes is still a very active community and it's easy spot to get to if you're coming from other parts of New York, Connecticut, New Jersey or have people visiting from other locations.
It's nice to see that the bungalow life is still very active in Dutchess County and you can click here for all the details on Somerset Leisure Homes.
