Transformative Projects Unveiled in Cohoes, Cambridge, Coxsackie, and Kinderhook
In a recent announcement, Governor Kathy Hochul unveiled an array of transformative projects for Cohoes, Cambridge, Coxsackie, and Kinderhook. These initiatives, totaling 30, mark a significant investment in the Capital Region's economic development through the Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) and NY Forward.
Downtown Cohoes Gets New Life
Cohoes, the Round 6 winner of a $10 million DRI award, secured 11 projects. Leveraging its unique cultural and historical assets, Cohoes aims to become a model for small-city revitalization. Projects include transforming the Cohoes Music Hall into a carbon-neutral space and creating mixed-use residential structures, breathing new life into downtown.
Cambridge, Coxsackie, and Kinderhook received $9.75 million through NY Forward. Projects range from restoring historic buildings for mixed-use redevelopment to enhancing pedestrian infrastructure. Coxsackie plans to transform the Dolan Block, while Cambridge aims to expand its public library and revitalize key areas like the Owl Kill Stream.
Acting New York Secretary of State Brendan C. Hughes and Empire State Development President, CEO, and Commissioner Hope Knight highlight the transformative potential of these investments. Through community-led development, Cohoes, Cambridge, Coxsackie, and Kinderhook are poised to shape the Capital Region's future.
Local leaders express gratitude for the opportunity to realize their vision. Mayor William Keeler of Cohoes emphasizes collaborative efforts, while Mayor Dorene Weir of Kinderhook anticipates positive impacts.
Strategically planned and immediately implemented, the DRI and NY Forward programs revitalize downtowns and foster equitable development. With a combined investment of $1.2 billion, New York's vision for sustainable growth and community empowerment is evident.

As these projects unfold, the Capital Region witnesses a renaissance driven by residents' creativity, resilience, and dedication. From historic preservation to modern urban design, the future looks bright for Cohoes, Cambridge, Coxsackie, and Kinderhook as they embark on this transformative journey together.
