Carmel Man arrested After Traffic Stop

Police arrested a 25-year-old Carmel man who was driving almost three times over the legal limit of intoxication on New Years Day. Police say this was his second DWI in less than two years.

On New Years Day New York State Police from Dover pulled over a car driven by Justin Koehler after he allegedly failed to stay in his designated lane. After he was pulled over the arresting officer believed Koehler was drunk.

Koehler agreed to take a breathalyzer test which revealed he had a blood alcohol content of over .20%, more than two times the legal limit of intoxication. And nearly three times the legal limit!

Koehler was charged with driving while intoixcated, a class E felony. Police say he was given a felony DWI when the officer discovered he had a previous DWI related conviction from March of 2014.

Koehler was also charged with 2nd-degree obstruction governmental administration, a misdemeanor, after police allege he refused to be fingerprinted or photographed.

The suspect was arraigned at the Town of Dover Justice Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail. He is due to appear in the Town of Pawling Court and the Town of Dover Court on a later date.
