It was just over a month ago that the Castlevania video game series was reported to finally spawn an animated series, as helmed by Adventure Time executive producer Fred Seibert. Now, Netflix appears to confirm a Castlevania series on its roster, which may debut as early as this year.

Per io9, Netflix’s ongoing press day has yielded one as-yet-undefined tidbit from a press release, stating “Castlevania Season 1, Part 1 Coming to Netflix in 2017.” We’ve reached out for comment, and will update with any official details.

Back in December, Adventure Time EP Seibert suggested over Nickelodeon’s Nick Animation Podcast that his studio was finally able to act on rights to a video game property held in their possession for twelve years. Producer Adi Shankar had also previously stated work on a Castlevania animated series, though no official details were ever confirmed.

It isn’t clear if the projects are one and the same, though Netflix is likely to clarify details soon, given the press listing. By the sounds of it, a Castlevania series might follow The Get Down approach to release only part of its first season. Stay tuned for further details.
