I finally got to experience the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome and now you should too.

So i've been telling you, my faithful listeners, about this amazing place we have right here in the Hudson Valley called the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome. But for a long time I have done just that...talked about it...but no longer! This weekend I finally got off my hind end this and went to check it out with my niece (who loves aweropains) for her birthday. She's two by the way...she doesn't just talk like that. I mean I know I do but she's smarter!

Anyway...back to the planes. So growing up my dad always took me to air show's, the bigger, the faster, the better and I loved them. But I've found that you can't truly appreciate aviation until you see it's history, where it all began. And checking out a place like the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome does just that. I mean they have some planes that didn't even have real cockpits... where does the pilot sit? Where ever he can hold on! Oh and he needs to be able to drop bombs too. What?!? So cool, so crazy!

They have so many great pieces in their collection and they try to keep as many of them as possibly air worthy. In addition to the air shows and events...which vary based on a schedule (more details below) the property itself houses two museums and several displays throughout the property. Did I mention they also have the nations best reproduction of the Spirit of St. Louis (seen below). The Aerodrome's Spirit is a new addition to the museum and is scheduled to fly in the saturday show's. Conditions permitting of course. You'd be careful too if it took you nearly 50 years to complete it!

So it's easy to see that I highly encourage you to take some time this summer and give the aerodrome a bit of your time. It's a fun afternoon for aviation enthusiast of all ages. After all...who doesn't love a cool aweropain!
