Child Killed By Ice Cream Truck

The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office responded to Birchwood Estates in the town of Thompson Thursday night for a report of a truck striking a child.

Responding deputies encountered paramedics from Hatzolah Volunteer Ambulance Service treating 4-year-old Shmuel Gelis for injuries received as a result of being struck by the vehicle. The young patient from Toms River, NJ was transported to Catskill Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the ice cream truck remained on scene. The investigation is ongoing and no further information is available.
