Chobani Yogurt To Open Massive $1.2 Billion Upstate, NY Manufacturing Facility
Chobani Yogurts New York History
Who doesn't love a spoonful of yogurt every now and again? If you're lactose intolerant, you probably don't, but yogurt is a delicious treat that could be spiced up with anything from fruit to sweet treats.
Over the years Chobani Yogurt has made a name for itself in the dairy game. Their original Greek Yogurt is one of the most popular, but you cant talk about Chobani and not mention their Chobani Flips.
The Chobani Flips are half yogurt half toppings that make your yogurt experience a flavor explosion.
Did you know Chobani Yogurt began in New Berlin, New York in March 2005? Years later Chobani manufacturing grew when they opened a location in Australia in 2011, and another facility in Idaho in 2012.
Now in 2025, Chobani is growing again with a new facility in Upstate, New York.
Chobani To Open New Facility in Rome, New York
According to a press release, there was an extensive search for a new location for the new "massive" $1.2 billon facility.
The new manufacturing facility will bring more than "1,000 good-paying jobs to Onedia County" which according to Governor Hochul is the "largest natural food manufacturing investment in American history.
In the statement Hamdi Ulukaya, Chobani Founder and CEO said:
With our new plant in Rome and our original home in South Edmeston, we’re entering a new dimension, partnering with hard working people across the heartland of New York to build an ecosystem of natural food production and nourish families throughout the country.
He added "When you invest in people, in local communities, you’re not just building a business — you’re building a future."
Why Did Chobani Choose Rome, New York For Their Latest Project?
It sounds like Hamdi Ulukaya has a lot of love for New York since it's where Chobani first began back in 2005. Ulukaya said "New York is where Chobani’s journey began. It was the perfect spot to start Chobani 20 years ago, and it’s the perfect place to continue our story."
In the statement released by Gov. Hochul's office Rome, New York was selected for this historic investment for a few reasons including:
- A skilled local workforce, including a high concentration of military veterans living in the area, as well as graduates from nearby colleges
- Easy access to the major population of the East Coast
- Availability of affordable housing in the area as well as Governor Hochul’s ongoing commitment to building affordable homes in New York State
- Additional resources coming from the state to support the creation of new jobs
