$20 Million in New Funding for Resilient Retrofit Program

A new round of funding for the Resilient Retrofits Program has been announced, with $20 million now available—nearly double the amount offered in the program's first year. This initiative is designed to help homeowners in flood-prone areas make critical upgrades to improve flood resilience and energy efficiency. The program offers financial assistance to eligible residents through grants and low-interest loans, helping protect homes from the growing impacts of climate change.

Up to $50,000 in Financial Assistance for Homeowners

Eligible homeowners in flood-prone areas can apply for up to $50,000 in financial assistance through the Resilient Retrofits Program. This funding can be used for flood mitigation upgrades, such as installing flood vents, sump pumps, backwater valves, or elevating utilities above the flood line. Homeowners can also use the funds to make energy-efficiency improvements like adding insulation, installing energy-efficient appliances, or electrifying heating systems.

The financial assistance is offered as a combination of a grant (half of the funds) and a low-interest loan (the other half) at a 3% rate. Homeowners with incomes up to 120% of the Area Median Income are eligible to apply.

Strengthening Homes Against Floods and Climate Change

The Resilient Retrofits Program not only helps homeowners mitigate the risks of flooding but also supports New York State's climate goals. By funding flood protection and energy-efficiency upgrades, the program contributes to the state's broader strategy for climate resilience, which includes achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

Managed by HCR and Local Partners

The program is managed by New York State Homes and Community Renewal (HCR), which partners with local organizations such as Home HeadQuarters, the Center for NYC Neighborhoods, and the Community Development Corporation of Long Island to administer the funds. These local program administrators are now accepting applications from homeowners across the state.
