A wanted Hudson Valley man allegedly threatened to kill a police officer and during a high-speed chase said he was going to jump off the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge.

On Saturday just before midnight, a Town of Poughkeepsie police officer pulled a car over on Main Street. While approaching the vehicle, the officer noticed the driver was 45-year-old William Pascal of Poughkeepsie, a man who the officer knew from a previous encounter had a suspended license and an active federal probation warrant.

Pascal is accused of verbally threatening to kill the officer with a firearm he said he had in his possession and fleeing the area.

The 45-year-old drove through Dutchess County and told Dutchess County 911 he planned to jump off the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge. Pascal eventually stopped his car on the bridge and was taken into custody. No firearms were found, police say.

Pascal was charged with unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, reckless endangerment, menacing, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration and aggravated unlicensed operation.

Pascal was sent to Dutchess County Jail on no bail.
