Is This the Most Wonderful Police Blotter in the Hudson Valley?
Generally, Hudson Valley residents read their local crime blotters to see the hard truth about what police officers have been doing behind the scenes. A recent report, however, might be the most wholesome piece of data this year.
While there are plenty of safe towns in the Hudson Valley (see the safest HERE), there still is serious work done by police departments all across the region on a daily basis. That may be why the recent news made for such good reading.
The Safest Towns in the Hudson Valley
According to recent data, the safest towns in the Mid-Hudson Valley include Saugerties, East Fishkill, and Hyde Park. After the latest police blotter from Westchester County, however, another area might get added to the list.
Idyllic Crime Blotter from Croton-on-Hudson, NY
The Village of Croton-on-Hudson shares their police blotter on a weekly basis. Since the reports are delayed by roughly a month, the highlights from the week of of July 18th were only recently released. The report sounded like something out of the movie Pleasantville. Some highlights:
Scarsdale Security reported an alarm activation. Patrol was dispatched and reported workers on the scene had set it off in error.
Caller reported kids riding scooters with no lights on. Patrol was dispatched and spoke with the children and advised them to keep their lights on.
Medical alert was activated with no answer on the call back. Patrol responded to the scene but could not make contact. A call was made to the homeowner who said she was asleep and was not going to open the door.
Of course even a sleepy village like Croton-on-Hudson has some actual crimes, and the blotter reported several arrests, although there were (luckily) no felonies in sight. In fact, some alleged law-breakers in Croton-on-Hudson even seemed happy to do the police's work for them:
A 40-year-old Yonkers resident turned himself in on an active arrest warrant for operating with a suspended license. He was placed under arrest, arraigned, and released on his own recognizance
While the majority of the report was filled with minor infractions or false alarms, there was still a winner amongst the placid reports. That award goes to the officers who responded to some local mischief-makers:
Caller reported kids were using shopping carts in the parking lot as cars and racing them. Patrol was on the scene and advised the kids to not do that.
It's a wonderful world when police officers can say "hey, don't do that", and the response is, "okay!". Check out the opposite of the lovely police blotter below.
