Hudson Valley residents were shocked to see an updated sign outside of the Dairy Queen locate at 197 S Plank Road in Newburgh, NY this week.
"No Dairy Queen!", said one commenter. "Just drove by and saw the sign going up! Happy for the owner but sad day for the rest of us", observed another. So what exactly is happening to the beloved business that has served Newburgh for nearly 70 years?

"Sign going up today at Dairy Queen. Officially retired, will not be reopening", began a recent Facebook post from Scott Manley, Deputy Town Supervisor of the Town of Newburgh (below). But the news of the closure is only the beginning of the story.
Newburgh Dairy Queen Closure Has Been Years in the Making
While the news took many residents by surprise, Supervisor Manley shared that the Dairy Queen franchise owner had been looking to retire, and a deal to sell the property had been in the works over the past few years.
Popeyes Location Set to Replace Dairy Queen in Newburgh, NY
According to new plans, the existing Dairy Queen building will be torn down, and another building that will house a Popeyes restaurant will be built further back from the intersection of South Plank Road and Route 300.
