Our Conversation with Hudson Valley’s Own Dave Annable

Hudson Valley holds a special place in the heart of Dave Annable, the talented actor known for his roles in hit series like Brothers & Sisters and Yellowstone.

We had the pleasure of catching up with Dave recently, and let us tell you, the guy hasn’t forgotten his roots. From reminiscing about his childhood in the Hudson Valley to the excitement surrounding his latest project, Special Ops: Lioness Season 2 on Paramount+, our conversation covered much ground.

When we mentioned we were in Hudson Valley, his reaction was immediate.

“You know, I just found out you guys were there, and I was like, ‘Oh, it’s home. I miss it,’” he said warmly. “I really loved growing up there. Loved it.”

Dave's connection to his hometown runs deep. Even though his career has taken him far and wide, he still considers the Hudson Valley home.

“I still have family up around the Hudson Valley, so it’s really great to talk to you guys and feels like home,” he added.

Of course, we couldn’t resist mentioning his time at SUNY Plattsburgh, which he fondly described as a “beautiful school” and a pivotal chapter in his life. But Dave’s stories about his college days were full of humor, especially regarding its proximity to Canada.

“We could make it to Montreal in about 20 minutes,” he joked. “It’s a slower drive coming back, though—it takes a few days to recover.”

Classic Dave.

We also talked about his current project, Special Ops: Lioness. Created by Taylor Sheridan (the mastermind behind Yellowstone, 1923, and more), the series is based on the real-life CIA Lioness program. Dave plays the husband of Joe, a CIA operative portrayed by Zoe Saldaña. The show explores the intersection of high-stakes espionage and personal relationships.

“I always found it interesting—what’s it like when a spy comes home? How much can you talk about, and how much can you not talk about?” Dave explained. “It’s really just a great show. It’s intense and has that Sicario-esque tone that fans of Taylor Sheridan’s work will love.”

As he talked about the show, it was clear how much he admires the team he’s working with.

“We’re sitting pretty right now,” he said with pride. “It’s an honor to work alongside talents like Zoe Saldaña, Nicole Kidman, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Kelly.”

We couldn’t let him leave without mentioning People magazine naming him a finalist for Sexiest Man Alive in 2024. Dave’s humor was in full force here.

“Finally something to talk about!” he said, laughing. “I’m going to have some shirts made. I’ll send some to you guys.”

“No disrespect to John Krasinski,” Dave joked, but he’s clearly leaning into the honor. “I let everybody know that I’m a three-timer. It wasn’t just an accident.”

Before signing off, Dave gave a heartfelt shoutout to his hometown.

“Hi to everyone back home. This is really cool. I appreciate it,” he said.

Talking to someone who hasn’t forgotten where they came from is always refreshing. Dave Annable may be busy working on star-studded projects like Special Ops: Lioness, but his love for the Hudson Valley—and his humor—remains as strong as ever.
